Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru now wants senior political leaders from Mt Kenya region to desist from politics of tribalism that risk isolating the region and the community from the rest of the country.
In an address seen as directed at Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Governor Waiguru has said that the Mt Kenya region communities were alienated in 2007 general elections saying that as leaders they will not allow to be taken back to that direction. Speaking during this years Madaraka day celebrations at Mutitu grounds in Kirinyaga Central, Waiguru said that the Mt Kenya region will benefit more in a government that is more inclusive.
Waiguru said that members of the Kikuyu community are known for their business ecumenism and are spread all over the country and as such leaders must desist from making them as to be seen as kikuyus and not as kenyans.
The Council of Governors Chairperson has also reiterated her earlier position that young leaders must be given a chance and supported in their dreams to attain political seats in the future.
Waiguru has castigated leaders from the region who are suppressing the political dreams of young leaders saying that they should instead be nurturing them. The Governor said by saying so, she is not disrespecting any leader adding that as a governor, she is also nurturing other leaders who will assume the governor’s seat after she exits in 2027.
Waiguru said that young leaders must be allowed to dream and have future ambitions and as such they should not be seen as disrespecting the current leaders. The Governor has reiterated her support for President William Ruto saying it is only through the President that the county will benefit from development projects.
Other leaders who were present during the celebrations led by Majority Leader Muriithi Kibinga said that they have observed other counties such as Murang’a where Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro is being moulded to the national political scene saying that Kirinyaga is also moulding Governor Ann Waiguru into the national political limelight ahead of 2027.
Kibinga said that the President previously made a proposal to have a female Deputy President noting that Governor Ann Waiguru is the best placed person to take up the position. Kirinyaga Central MP Gachoki Gitari on his part insisted that there are no divisions between the President, his deputy and governor Ann Waiguru saying that all leaders must focus on working for Kenyans and keep off early campaigns.
