Over 20,000 trees were planted Saturday during the planting and mentorship event at Moi Girls Kapsowar in Marakwet West Sub-County, as part of a significant environmental initiative.
Hosted by Gladys Wanjiru Kipchumba, the patron of Moi Kapsowar High School and the spouse of the Cabinet Secretary for Roads, Transport, and Public Works Kipchumba Murkomen, the event marked a critical step toward realizing the president’s vision of planting 15 billion trees.
“Our collective efforts today are more than just an environmental endeavor; they represent our commitment to a sustainable future for our nation,” Mrs. Murkomen stated. The trees were planted and distributed to nearby schools, including Chebera Boys High and Marakwet Boys High School, ensuring the initiative’s reach extends beyond the immediate event.
“Today, we are not just planting trees; we are planting hope and a sustainable future for our nation,” she said, adding that, “This initiative goes beyond environmental conservation it’s a commitment to a greener and healthier Kenya for generations to come.”
The morning’s tree-planting activities were followed by an impactful mentorship session in the afternoon, engaging students from various schools. The mentorship aimed to inspire and equip these young minds with the tools and confidence needed to become future leaders and innovators.
“It was a privilege to witness the enthusiasm and potential of these young minds,” Mrs. Murkomen said. Through our discussions, we aimed to inspire them to be the leaders and innovators of tomorrow. Seeing their eagerness to learn and grow reaffirmed our belief in the importance of nurturing the younger generation, she added.
Participants and organizers alike described the mentorship session as immensely fulfilling. “By investing in their development, we are securing a brighter future for our country. The impact of today’s session will resonate far beyond this event, shaping the aspirations and achievements of these young individuals,” she added.
Timothy Kilimo, the Board of Management Chairman, also expressed his gratitude and highlighted the importance of such initiatives. “Thank you to everyone who made this event possible. The impact of today’s session will resonate far beyond this event, shaping the aspirations and achievements of these young individuals,” he said.
