210 liters of illicit brew destroyed

 Kajiado North Acting Deputy County Commissioner Wafula Metrine, along with the Ngao team and public health officers, successfully destroyed 200 liters of illicit brew from Kware village, Ongata Rongai area.

The brew which was later destroyed at the Kajiado North District County Commissioner headquarters was termed by public health officials present as unfit for consumption.

Speaking to KNA after the crackdown, Metrine said that the operation follows a directive by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to declare a nationwide operation on sale of substances and illicit brews. “Together with the multi-agency team we have managed to unearth a large number of illicit brews and we will continue to destroy such substances. Consumption of such substance is harmful to the youth,” she said.

She added that due to the high rate of alcoholism and substance abuse among the youth they have put up measures to help the youth which have in the long run bore fruit. “We have put up measures as the District County Commissioners office which has reduced excessive consumption of alcohol, helped the youth to stay sober and meet their day-to-day needs, “Metrine added.

The Ag, DCC further stated Metrine that until the war on illicit brew is over, they will not get tired, called on the members of the public to continue being vigilant and give information on illicit brews and urged residents to generate income through malicious activities.

“I urge residents of Kajiado County to engage in clean business-like selling tomatoes as a way of generating income instead of engaging in malicious and unlawful activities,” she advised. No arrest had been made at the time of confiscation as the notorious brewers managed to flee the scene.
