29-year-old man to serve 9 months over a witchcraft charge

A 29-year-old man was jailed by a Makueni court for 9 months after he pleaded guilty to witchcraft charge on Monday.

The accused, Marthias Matata who appeared before the Makueni Law Court Chief Magistrate (CM) Peter Gesora pleaded guilty to having been found to be in possession of witchcraft articles and charms that he used to perform his activities.

Matata who is a resident of Wote Township in Makueni Subcounty was on June 5, 2024 found in possession of 3 sharp horns wrapped in red and black ribbons, a bottle wrapped in red and black ribbons and a bottle containing an unknown liquid and other articles used in exercising witchcraft.

“This court has found out that this is your first offence, you will be jailed for 9 months and all the exhibits should be burnt to ashes apart from the bible,” said Gesora while giving his judgement.
