Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) party leader Eugene Wamalwa has blamed the ongoing doctors strike and the crisis in the education sector to financial missteps by the government.
The health sector, he said, has borne the brunt of the misguided priorities of the Kenya Kwanza administration and mismanagement of public resources with the doctor’s strike crippling services at all public health facilities in the country.
With nurses and clinical officers set to down their tools, the sector, he said, will suffer further as the government drags its feet. The former Devolution Cabinet Secretary (CS) said it was unfortunate that innocent members of the public were suffering because of a disagreement that can be resolved by the government.
Speaking at Nyakach Girls High School in Kisumu County, Wamalwa said the education sector has not been spared with the delay in release of capitation funds to schools affecting the smooth running of education programs.
School heads, he said, were struggling to sustain students in the institutions which are now faced with huge pending bills.
“The Kenya Kwanza administration is not doing enough for the education sector. As we speak now the sector is in a crisis. Schools are struggling. Delays in the release of Constituency Development Fund (CDF), he added, has further negatively affected the education sector with thousands of learners out of school due to lack of bursaries.
This, he said that Azimio coalition will continue to call out the administration over failed programs.
