Madaraka Day
The government has put in place adequate security arrangements ahead of the Madaraka day celebrations set to be held at Masinde Muliro Stadium in Kanduyi area Bungoma County on 1st of June this year.
The Principal Secretary State Department for Internal Security and National Administration Dr. Raymond Omollo is calling on all Kenyans to turn up in large numbers for the national celebrations saying preparations for the event are at an advanced stage.
Dr. Omollo was speaking in Bungoma Thursday after chairing a National Celebrations Steering Committee meeting at the County Commissioner’s boardroom.
He said that this was the first time Bungoma County was hosting the event whose theme is ‘focusing on food security’ and added that the State Department of Agriculture together with the County government of Bungoma would be showcasing what the country has achieved in terms of food security at a week-long exhibition at Kibabii University grounds before the 1st of June.
The PS said that several players from Bungoma and neighboring counties will be given a chance to showcase these achievements in the agriculture sector and asked stakeholders to utilize this opportunity and market their enterprises.
He called on the residents of Bungoma to co-operate with the various contractors on the ground to ensure a smooth flow of the preparations. On the ongoing heavy rains, the P.S. asked members of the public to remain cautious when crossing flooded rivers and bridges to avoid cases of losing lives.
He said the country was experiencing heavy rains unlike before and asked leaders to be on the forefront in guiding the communities at the grass root level on the dangers of crossing flooded rivers and roads to avoid cases of losing lives in situations that could have been avoided.
Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka called on youths in the area to take up jobs that are on offer at the stadium as their contribution towards the construction and completion of the facility to be used on the 1st of June. He appealed on the residents to be cautious of the heavy rains being experienced in the area to avoid cases of loss of lives.
Governor Lusaka said some areas in Mt Elgon have been identified as likely to experience landslides and asked the area residents to be cautious.
