Farmers
The government is working towards modernizing the agricultural sector to enable farmers practice farming as a business and generate income for their living.
The Principal Secretary State Department of Industry Dr. Juma Mukhwana said that the agricultural sector has for a long time been practiced traditionally and that with the new technologies coming up, farmers would be able to do farming as an income generating project and an employment.
He was speaking at Kibabii University in Bungoma County on Thursday at an exhibition organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock and other stakeholders as part of Madaraka Day celebrations whose theme is “Agriculture and Food Security”.
Dr. Mukhwan said the exhibition had been organized to sensitize farmers on the programmes being run by the government to showcase new technologies that have been developed in the agriculture sector. The PS said that the government is reviving various sectors including coffee, tea, and the cotton and leather industry in order to enable farmers to earn a living from their activities.
He called on residents of Western Kenya to work towards adding value to the food they produce on their farms in order to reap maximum profit from their farm produce.
