A suspect who roughed up a traffic police officer in Nairobi has been arrested following an intensified raid. Ian Ngige was arrested in his house in Donholm by detectives from Kasarani following the shameful incident on Sunday afternoon.
According to the police, the 19-year-old suspect was arrested with assorted personal effects and recovered his motor vehicle Nissan Note impounded. The injured policeman met the unfortunate incident when he was on duty along Kamiti/ Mirema road where he was controlling traffic.
In a police report, the traffic officer spotted a vehicle making a U turn and obstructing flow of other road users. “In the process the vehicle got struck and the officer managed to get in the passenger’s seat and instructed the driver to proceed to Kasarani police station,” read part of the statement.
After a short while, the driver stopped the vehicle and drew a somali sword before the officer jumped out for his safety.
Eyewitnesses said the driver followed the policeman with kicks and blows and fell in a ditch. “The rogue driver took the policeman’s pocket phone battery and left,” said the eyewitness.
