A middle-aged man who was found guilty of trafficking narcotics by a Narok Court has been fined Sh50 million or in default he will have to serve a10 years’ imprisonment sentence. The accused, Simon Githaiga Kimani, was convicted on his own plea of guilty when he appeared before Narok Resident Magistrate Daniel Gayo.
He had been arrested on February 5, 2023 with 51, 500 grams of Cannabis Sativa with a street value of over Sh1.5 million. The court heard that the accused was arrested at Maasai Mara University Gate C, at Total area in Narok Central Sub County, where he was conducting the illicit trade.
In mitigation, Kimani prayed the court to forgive him saying he has a young family that depends on him and promised not to repeat the offence. While handing down the sentence, the resident magistrate reiterated the seriousness of the crime and cautioned young people against engaging in unlawful activities.
He therefore handed the accused a fine of Sh50 million or serve a jail term of ten years.
