Siaya High Court Presiding Judge Daniel Ogola Ogembo was found dead at his home in Siaya town on Wednesday morning at around 11am.
According to the police, it was his driver who noticed something was wrong when he arrived to pick him up in the morning as was his usual routine. However, the judge was unreachable through attempted calls and text messages, prompting him to seek help to access the house after he had tried accessing the home without success, where the body was found, police said.
Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo confirmed the death, adding that more information on the death would be available once they have completed investigations and an autopsy report. Until his demise, the late Ogembo served as the presiding Judge of Siaya High Court.
The body was moved to Siaya Referral Hospital mortuary for autopsy and further investigations into the death.
Siaya Governor James Orengo joined the judiciary in mourning with a post on his X account that said, “Justice Ogembo had a marvelous ability to listen intently, reflect quietly and then interject, usually with a brief few words that brought clarity in the courtroom. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
