Festival
The County Government has called for partnerships and collaboration from the development and corporate partners as plans intensify for the upcoming annual Tourism and cultural festival. The event is scheduled to take place at the end of August 2024 at the Ekalees Cultural Centre, Lodwar.
During a resource mobilization meeting for the event, Chief Officer for Tourism, Cicilia Majuma, emphasized the importance of partner support in ensuring the festival’s success. The Tobong’ulore festival celebrates Turkana’s rich cultural heritage and showcases its tourism potential.
Chief Officer Majuma highlighted several areas where partners could contribute, including exhibitions, displays and publicity, trade area booths, transportation, utility services, media coverage, and health services. This year’s festival theme focuses on tourism, peaceful co-existence, and climate change. Majuma called for input from peace actors and stakeholders in the climate change sector.
The County Executive Committee Member, Leah Audan Lokaala, had initially met with partners in Turkana West region to mobilise support and create awareness for the upcoming annual event. The event attracts visitors from Uganda, South Sudan, Ethiopia and other parts of the country.
President William Ruto and former prime minister Raila Odinga graced last year’s event.
