The Department of Water, Sanitation, Environment, and Climate Change in Homa county has conducted a major cleanup exercise of  Rangwe Town.

Environmental stakeholders led by the Department’s Chief Officer Eng Collins Obango turned up for the exercise with hundreds of volunteers and local residents participating in cleanup activities such as collection of solid waste, mapping of waste and unclogging blocked drainages.

The exercise was also aimed at raising awareness about the importance of responsible waste management and encouraging lasting behaviour change regarding waste disposal. The initiative, which focused on tackling the waste crisis and promoting sustainable waste management practices, was well-received by the local community and is expected to contribute significantly to a cleaner town.

The event, which aligned with the global theme, “Make Room for Life, #TowardsZeroWaste,” was part of the worldwide movement that sought to activate 5% of the world’s population in tackling the waste crisis. Eng. Obango said the successful collective effort demonstrated the county’s commitment to environmental conservation.

He said this was part of a global movement and was aligned to the theme: Make Room for Life, #TowardsZeroWaste. Obango applauded the community for their active participation and emphasised the importance of continuous efforts to address the growing waste crisis.

He said the county government looks forward to future collaborations with stakeholders and residents in the ongoing battle against environmental degradation. Obango extended his gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the event saying that the county government remains committed to ensuring a cleaner and more sustainable environment.
