The Narok Judiciary has destroyed eleven sacks of Cannabis Sativa (bhang) with a street value of Sh15 million, that had been stored as exhibits by the judiciary after the cases were completed in court.
Also destroyed were hundreds of liters of illicit brew namely; chang’aa, kangara, busaa and other alcoholic drinks that had not met the required alcoholic drinks control act regulations. Narok Chief Magistrate Hebron Nyamberi who led top government officials to destroy the drugs said the exercise was carried out as per the public health regulations.
“We are here with the judiciary officials, security team led by Narok Central Deputy County Commissioner Kennedy Mwangome and public health officials to witness the destruction of these drugs that have been in our stores for a long time,” he said.
Narok Senior Prosecution Counsel James Kigo revealed that all the culprits that had been nabbed with the illegal drugs had been convicted in court of law, with some of them having completed their jail term. He lauded the security officials for the good work they did to arrest those dealing with drugs, and called on the members of the public to be vigilant and report those dealing with drugs.
Narok Central Deputy County Commissioner Kennedy Mwangome asked the police to ensure there were no illegal drugs in the county by arresting all drug dealers. “We ask the members of the public to give us any information that would lead to the arrest of any person dealing with drugs, and especially bhang and illicit brews that are common in town,” said Mwangome.
He lauded the courts for giving the cases the seriousness they deserved as all cases relating to drug abuse had been completed on time and culprits punished accordingly. Narok central Public health officer in charge of Food safety and control Daniel Timayio confirmed they had followed the laid down regulations to destroy the drugs.
Timayio called on the public to ensure that the alcoholic drugs they consume had a Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) sticker and approved for human consumption
