Plea
A section of Mt Kenya East young grassroots leaders has appealed to the whole region to rally behind the new Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki.
They asked their political siblings from Mt. Kenya West not to allow the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua as Deputy President and subsequent enthronement of Kindiki as his replacement to divide the region. They argued that peace and unity of the region was of paramount importance for it to have a stake in government projects as well as maintain its perennial political numerical strength.
Led by political lobbyist Kirangacha Mwaniki, the leaders said any division would vanquish the region’s voice and stake in national politics. Mwaniki said it was also time for their siblings from the west to reciprocate the gesture by supporting one of their own who has risen to become the second in command in the country.
“We have supported our brothers and sisters from the West in successive governments from the time of First President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and it is time for them to return the favor,” he said. Speaking in Embu town on Saturday while waving placards with congratulatory messages for Prof. Kindiki, the leaders asked the former DP to accept his fate and rally his supporters’ behind his successor.
“This is the time for the former DP to demonstrate patriotism by supporting Kindiki so that the region can move on,” said Mwaniki. Joel Mugambi said it was a historical moment for the region to have one of their own rise to that position and commended President William Ruto for honoring them with the appointment.
