Coffee farmers will take home Sh965.3 million from the sale of 25,090 bags of coffee through the Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE) on Tuesday. In the sale an average cost of a 50 kilogramme bag of coffee was at Sh31,416.
The proceeds from the market reflects a decline from the previous Sh984.8 million raised from the sale of 23,930 bags of the commodity in the last week’s market. In the reports from the online market platform, the best paying coffee factories were from Kirinyaga and Nyeri counties affiliated to Kirinyaga Slopes and Alliance Berries Limited.
Kiawamururu coffee factory in Mukurwe ini Nyeri county represented by the Alliance Berries Limited registered the highest payment of its AA quality of 48 bags each traded at Sh59,400($450) per bag.
At Kii Coffee Factory 50 bags of AA each were bought Sh52,800($400). In the market, the marketing agents delivered 6,335 bags of AA quality and 10,985 bags of AB. NCE Acting CEO Ms Lisper Ndung’u in her report said the market earned Sh968.9 million.
“The number of coffee producers has been on the rise, an indication we are on the right track for the future,” said the acting CEO. In the dealer’s category, the NCE reported there were 17 buyers who bought the consignment at Sh965.3 million.
KenyaCoff led the pack buying the highest consignment of 7,424 bags at Sh 297.4 million.
The commodity was sourced from 1,111 cooperatives and estates. Kigumo MP Joseph Munyoro say many of the cooperatives from Mt Kenya region participated in the auction.
” From Murang’a we had New Irati, Gatagua, Iyego, Marimira, Ruchu, which is very encouraging,” said Munyoro, a member of Coffee Tea Parliamentary Association (Cotepa).
In the report the leading lights in the market were C-Dorman who bought 4,056 bags at Sh 173.3 million, Sasini 3,310 bags, Taylor Winch 3,015 bags Sh134.4 million. Ibero Kenya bought 3,168 bags at Sh99.5 million.
In the marketing agent’s category, Alliance Berries Limited offered 7,746 bags that fetched Sh305.4 million, KCCE 1,773 bags Sh67.9 million, Kiambu Coffee 1,945 bags Sh70.4 million.
Others were Kipkelion 1,042 bags Sh33.9 million, Kirinyanga slopes 6,384 bags Sh190 million, and United Eastern 341 bags Sh16.4 million,
