A family in Narok county was swept away by mudslide following heavy rains.

Landslide kills a family in Narok

The members of the family including their three years old daughter were buried alive on Monday night in Torokiat village in Ololulunga in Narok South. Narok South Narok South OCPD Isack Omar called on the residents residing in risky areas to relocate to the safety locality until the rains subsides.

The deceased have been identified as Robert Kibet 35, Faith Keter 24, children Brian Kibet 5, and Cherotich Keter 3. GeraldGerald Koskei said the locality has experienced heavy rains in the past four days. “The police responded swiftly and managed to retrieve the bodies from the mud,” said Koskei.

Narok South MP Kitilai Ole Ntutu sympathized with the family who lost their loved one’s last night in Torokiat area due to a landslide caused by the heavy downpour.

“More importantly, the people must exercise great caution during this rainy season in order to prevent landslides,” said the MP. He called on the residents to avoid deforestation and improper land use practices that weaken soil stability.

“In the event of a landslide, it’s crucial to evacuate those in the affected areas immediately and seek higher ground.,” said Ntutu. He emphasized on the locals to always plant trees to strengthen the land.
