A violent altercation at Kiptobit Secondary School in Bomet East Sub-County has left a female student in critical condition after her boyfriend hacked her with a machete. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday morning, is suspected to be linked to a dispute over a romantic relationship.

Preliminary reports indicated that enraged Form Four student armed with a machete assaulted his classmate with whom they had love affair following a heated argument.

The form three girl sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to Longisa Hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Bomet East police boss Joseph Chesire confirmed the attack and revealed that the assailant fled the scene immediately after the incident.

Police are actively searching for the suspect, who has been identified as a Form Four student at the same school. Chesire explained that the confrontation took place in a classroom where the male student had arrived earlier than usual. Witnesses reported that the attacker confronted the victim, demanding to know why someone else answered her phone calls.

The argument escalated, leading the student to draw a machete and strike her four times. “The assailant was heard quarrelling with the female student before he drew the machete and attacked her,” said Chesire. “The motive appears to be linked to a personal dispute over a romantic relationship.”

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident as the search for the suspect who is large continues.
