The Nakuru County government is in the process of decentralizing ultrasound services to enhance its healthcare system at grassroots, leading to improved health and wellbeing for its residents.

The County Executive for Health Ms. Roselyn Mungai today said taking ultrasound services to all the sub-counties can bring significant benefits to the local communities including easier access to medical imaging, reduced need for travel to the County Referral Hospital hence, saving time and transport cost.

The Hospital Medical Superintendent of the Subukia Sub-County health facility, Dr. Edward Kamau said he was delighted about the hospital’s growth. “This new service will greatly enhance our ability to provide timely and accurate medical care to our clients,” he said.

He underscored the importance of timely identification of medical conditions such as abdominal issues and organ abnormalities, which can lead to better outcomes following timely interventions.

Dr. Kamau stated that better monitoring of pregnancies, heightens improved maternal health care because the imaging machines have the capacity to detect high-risk pregnancies and potential complications, allowing for early and appropriate medical intervention.

Also, he noted that the ultrasound machine increases awareness and education about the impact of regular medical check-ups and empowerment of local healthcare workers with new skills and technology. Additionally, he said, more affordable imaging services, especially for low-income families was likely to lead to better management of chronic diseases, such as non-communicable diseases through regular monitoring.

He urged wananchi to make regular check-ups part of their yearly routines even when they have no symptoms or pains at all since detection of all forms of diseases at an early stage increases the probabilities of recovering and the costs of managing the ailment becomes much cheaper.
