Accident along Nakuru-Eldoret highway claims 13 lives

13 people including a week-old child died this morning after a Mombasa-bound-bus bumped into a personal car at Migaa blackspot near Salgaa along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.

According to the area Sub-County Police Commander (SCPC) Timon Odingo who confirmed the 4am accident, two out of the five occupants in the small vehicle, a branded Toyota Passo, and 11 passengers in the Coast Bus died on the spot.

He said that both vehicles were moving towards the same direction from Eldoret towards Nakuru and on reaching Migaa, the driver of the small vehicle slowed down to drive past a bump but the driver of the bus rammed into the said vehicle hence causing the horrific incident.

The police boss further noted that 10 people who sustained injuries are receiving treatment at the Molo sub-county hospital, 17 at the Nakuru County referral hospital while 28 were rushed to Coptic hospital.

Meanwhile, a Kenya Red Cross response team has been instrumental in according prompt assistance in ensuring that all survivors are attended to. The Police commander said investigations have commenced to establish the cause of the accident.
