Administration
Busia Sub County Assistant County Commissioner Eunice Ochieng has asked chiefs to collaborate with police officers to crackdown on dealers of illicit brews. Speaking during the installation of Evans Otieno as Bugengi Sub Location Assistant Chief at Bukalama Primary school on Friday, Ochieng said the illicit brew business has caused so many problems to the local residents.
“We have seen how the deputy president Rigathi Gachagua is fighting the war on illicit brews. We have to help him in this war. I want you chiefs and sub chiefs to start with those village elders who are always drunk. Arrest them and everyone who is in that business,” Ochieng decreed.
She advised the administrators to be the servant leaders and serve the local residents fairly without favoritism. “Be a servant leader and serve your people. Don’t encourage corrupt practices for you to offer services. You should not keep citizens at your office door waiting for the services,” she said.
The ACC challenged parents to educate their children so that they can qualify to apply for opportunities to be recruited into administration service.
“We have a small number of women in local administration. My appeal to parents is to ensure they educate the girl child for them to be competitive when an opportunity arises. I also call on fathers to help their daughters by providing for them sanitary towels and other needs,” She said while lamenting increased cases of negligence of parental responsibility in the Sub County.
Busia County Administration Officer 1 Joseph Achumi asked parents to report suspicious characters to security agencies. “I am appealing to you all, if you suspect anyone, kindly report that person to security agencies so that they can investigate. I know those people are our children or even relatives and we know them so let’s report them as this will guarantee us of our security,” he said.
Achumi advocated for equal rights for both the boy and girl child in the community stating that all children are equal. “Let’s care for our children regardless of gender. All these children are equal and they deserve equal opportunities. Let’s protect our girls from the early pregnancies by ensuring they are in school,” Achumi said.
Evans Otieno, the new Bugengi Assistant chief expressed his readiness to serve the people and the government of Kenya. “I am ready to serve my people in this position. What I just request from them is their cooperation. Servant leadership is what I am promising them and the rule of law of our country,” he said.
Residents of Bugengi sub location represented by Fridah Wangula hailed the government for deploying the Assistant Chief in the area. “We are happy that we have a leader near to us. We are now assured of timely services. What we are requesting from him is leadership imbued with wisdom. We are going to fully support our sub chief and other administrators,” she said.
