AG’s Office Validates Performance Contract

Validation

The Office of the Attorney General and Department of Justice (OAG&DOJ) has validated its performance contract for the financial year 2024/2025.

The exercise, led by the Deputy Chief of Staff in the Executive Office of the President Mr. Eliud Owalo and also attended by the Attorney General Dorcas Oduor, as well as various heads of technical departments at the Attorney General’s Boardroom, sought to firm up on the areas that the Office of the Attorney General intends to focus on during the financial year.

Owalo who is in charge of Performance and Delivery Management in the Executive Office of the President visited the AG’s office to validate its performance contract in preparation for the signing of the  financial year 2024/25 with the President.  “We are validating the core areas the office of the Attorney General is mandated to implement,” said the Deputy Chief of Staff.

The core areas mandated to the office of the AG include facilitating the realization of good governance and respect for the rule of law through the provision of efficient public legal services and promotion of human rights, providing legal services to the government and the public, represents the National government in civil proceedings and other matters before courts and tribunals (both local and foreign), promotes the rule of law and protects public interest, as well as promotes and protect human rights.

Other responsibilities are promoting good governance, transparency, accountability, ethics and integrity; facilitating  implementation of the Constitution, as well as facilitating policy, legal, and institutional reforms in the administration of justice, electoral reforms, legal education and the legal profession,  providing  national registration services for marriages, societies, coat of arms and adoptions,  Enhancing access to justice through the provision of legal aid,  and overseeing legal matters pertaining to estates and trusts.

During the meeting, the Attorney General on the progress achieved in the implementation of directives arising from the 2nd National Executive Retreat in Naivasha whose theme was on ‘Building Momentum for Better Service Delivery’. Odour promised to strengthen the provision of legal services in support of the Bottom-Up Transformation Agenda (BETA), the Kenya Vision 2030 and other national priorities.

“Other strategic intents that will be fulfilled include enhancing adherence to the rule of law and facilitating the enactment of relevant laws and regulations,” she said. In these directives, the State Law Office jointly with the Public Service Commission was to finalize on the recruitment, selection and deployment of State Counsels to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) as well as the Counties.

Similarly, the State Law Office was to work jointly with the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy to develop a robust electronic Case Management System.

Present at the meeting was the Principal Secretary for Parliamentary Affairs Aurelia Rono, the Principal Secretary for Cabinet Affairs Dr. Idris Dakota and the Principal Administrative Secretary in charge of Performance Management Joshua Mwiranga among other senior government officials.
