The highly anticipated Wamatangi Champions football cup finals pitting Githunguri Seniors against Butterfly F.C from Ruiru town will take place on June 30th. Both sides booked their spots in the finals after seeing off their opponents, B.Fast FC and Copia FC respectively.

Butterfly F.C became the first team to book their place in the finals by seeing off a resilient Copia FC team 2-0 at a packed Thika stadium on the 25th of February early this year.

Their journey to the finals began with a nail-biting penalty shootout win against Real Majengo FC in the quarterfinals which they came out 3-2 victors, setting the stage for a dominant performance vs a beleaguered Copia fc team that now has to settle for a place in the third runners’ up.

To their credit, Copia F.C have showcased their impressive skills throughout the tournament but came up against a Butterfly FC team that on the day were levels ahead. They will now face off against the B.FC team for third spot.

Kiambu West victors Githunguri F.C journey to the finals saw them navigate a few tricky fixtures none more so than their quarterfinals opponents, Gachie All-stars F.C, who for all their dominance in the group stages could only master a single shot on target against a strong and dominant Githunguri F.C team that ended the match with a 2-0 score line much to the delight of the team’s supporters.

The third runners-up playoff match will see Copia F.C face off against B.Fast F.C from Limuru. All matches will be played at the now refurbished Kirigiti International Stadium with kick off times set for 1:30 pm local time.

The Kiambu Governors cup is an annual event instigated by Governor Kimani Wamatangi which aims to identify, nurture, and promote local talent in football. Starting with teams from the Sub-County level all the way to the regional level with prizes handed out at each level of triumph.

Over 700 teams began their journey in this sporting extravaganza back in October last year and now down to the best two.
