Another milestone in the tea sector

President William Ruto has congratulated KTDA for breaking ground by launching Chai Gold, a new Kenyan flagship tea brand for the international market.  Speaking in Kericho, he said the Kenyan product has achieved the best prices owing to the better markets and value addition.

Accompanied by Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi and KTDA Chairman Enos Njeru, Ruto said there is a better future for the tea growers encouraging them to increase production owing to the expanded market.  He lauded the KTDA for branding the Kenyan tea, specifically from Kericho, as the best in the world.

“Never again shall our best produced tea be sold unbranded for our competitors in the global markets to cash on it,” said the President.  Njeru on his part said he was happy with the launch of a new Kenyan tea brand at KETEPA in Kericho that will put our country at a higher level in the whole world market.

 Njeru said through the Kenya Tea Parkers (Ketepa) Kenya’s leading tea blending and packing company with over 50 products including black tea, flavoured tea, green tea, purple tea, white tea, orthodox and herbal infusions.

” It during my tenure has made another legacy in KTDA,” said Njeru adding that the directors in the tea sector are committed towards promoting the grower’s interest. He further explained that KTDA has continued to engage the government and other key stakeholders to reduce the duty on packaging, thereby enhancing and promoting local value addition of tea.
