A section of leaders who were elected in Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party have urged the party leader Raila Odinga to appoint Busia Governor Paul Otuoma as deputy party leader.

This follows the nomination of the immediate former Deputy Party leader Wycliffe Oparanya by President William Ruto as the Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development.

Busia County Assembly MCAs Richard Okello (Mayenje), Beatrice Opwapo (nominated MCA), Camulus Magaba (Agenga/Nanguba ward) and the former Nangina Ward MCA John Obwogo said that Otuoma was a competent leader who will be able to champion the party’s affairs.

“We have already received support from Kakamega, Vihiga, Trans Nzoia and Bungoma,” said Okello, adding that Busia had registered the highest number of ODM members within Western region.

Okello urged MCAs and their Kisii counterparts who are drumming support for their Governor Simba Arati to occupy the same position to support Otuoma instead arguing that the community which is domiciled within Nyanza region should instead seek the position of chairman that was formerly held by John Mbadi. The leaders urged the youth to maintain peace and allow President Ruto and his new cabinet work on modalities of spurring the country’s development.
