A section of aspirants for ODM party Chairmanship in Homa Bay county have urged the party’s elections board to release a timetable for the elections.

The aspirants led by Walter Opiyo expressed concerns that the 21 days the interim Chair was to act in the position had elapsed, yet the party headquarters was not releasing an election timetable. Opiyo said he had written to the party headquarters expressing interest to vie for the position but they had been kept in the dark as to when the elections will be held.

He noted that as per the party constitution, the Vice Chairman Hamilton Orata was to assume the position of Chairman on an acting capacity for only 21 days after the office fell vacant. He expressed concerns that the 21 days had elapsed yet the party’s elections board was silent.

The position fell vacant following the elevation of the previous office holder Governor Gladys Wanga to be the party National Chairperson. Opiyo at the same time lamented that the party’s county office in Homa Bay town was always closed thus slowing down party activities including registration of new members.

“The party branch should have a permanent secretariat in the county headquarters to manage the affairs of the party and serve members” He observed. Opiyo who is the Homa Bay County Speaker of Bunge la Wananchi urged the party to utilize its share of the political party’s fund to run the county office on a permanent basis.
