Athlete found dead in rented room

Tragedy

A 28-year-old athlete was found dead in a room he had rented within the premises of a Kaptagat hotel in Keiyo South sub county. Elgeyo Marakwet County Commander Peter Mulinge said his colleagues who had rented other rooms within the hotel premises reported to the hotel proprietor that the deceased was not responding to their calls.

They further said that they had seen him through the window of the room lying on his belly. The proprietor reported the incident to the police at Kaptagat police station who responded immediately, broke the door and found his lifeless body. Next to it was some rice and black tea which is believed he was eating before his death.

The commander said the police have commenced forensic investigations to establish the cause of his death saying the body had no visible injuries nor were there any signs of a struggle.

The body was taken to the Iten County Referral Hospital for a post mortem.
