Azimio leaders have expressed their support towards the ongoing peaceful demonstrations led by the youth.
Speaking after attending a Sunday service at a church in Busia town on Sunday, the National Assembly’s minority leader Opiyo Wandayi said that the youth are speaking the truth to those in power. “Ruto’s leadership must be reminded that they are not leading animals, they are leading human beings and they must listen when citizens speak,” he said.
Wandayi stated that it was not too late to reverse the government’s stand on the 2024/2025 Financial Bill adding that the Bill will only be sealed once it has been assented to. “I am sure sense can prevail even tomorrow and the Kenya Kwanza Coalition can withdraw this Bill,” he said insisting that the Bill must be withdrawn in its entirety
He urged police officers to refuse to be misused to use excessive force on the demonstrating youth arguing that they are simply agitating for their rights. The lawmaker further clarified that the Azimio coalition members were not involved in the current wrangles between the President and his deputy.
“What we know is that they are currently the ones in charge of state power, and they are the ones collecting our taxes, so we must hold them accountable,” he said.
The youthful generation famously known as Gen Z have vowed to stage peaceful demonstrations across the country, until the ruling coalition Kenya Kwanza regime drops the 2024/2025 Finance Bill, which they claim to be oppressive to the common mwananchi.
