Baringo residents welcome President Ruto dismissal of cabinet

A section of Baringo residents have welcomed President William Ruto’s dismissal of the entire cabinet saying that it will pave the way for the appointment of fresh and competent leaders.

Speaking at Kabarnet Central Business District (CBD) on Thursday moment after the announcement, the jubilant and excited residents urged president Ruto to take his time in considering potential appointees to avoid facing another backlash from members of the public.

Jacob Kiyeng, a resident of Baringo Central called upon the head of state to consider technocrats with service background coupled with high sense of integrity who are able to deliver his Kenya Kwanza manifesto to the letter.

Kiyeng, while proposing for unnecessary expenditure cuts in government, also asked the president to reduce the number of principal secretaries from the current 52 to less than 40 in order to pump the resources to other critical sectors of the economy like health and education.

“We would like the president to also relook at reverting back the retirement age in civil service to 55 so that those who are jobless can be absorbed in government and we would have solved the issue of unemployment in this country,” he said.

Similar sentiments were shared by Abraham Chebusien who thanked the president for listening to Kenyans especially the Gen zees and taking the bold decision of firing the cabinet noting that it will make him to be respected and his administration winning the confidence of Kenyans.

He stated that this time round, the president should get CS’s with the requisite academic and professional credentials and experience. “The president should only appoint cabinet secretaries who understand the role of the office he or she has been selected and by that they will not let him down,” he said.

Saline Kabon, another resident, petitioned the president to relook into those cabinet secretaries widely mentioned in graft cases for the relevant government organs to commence investigations on them. She said that the move will bring hope to Kenyans who are concerned with massive corruption and embezzlement of public resources by senior government officials.

Sheila Jebet who is a Gen Z and a Medical Intern also voiced her gratitude to the president for soul searching and deciding to make the landmark decision of dismissing the cabinet after about 21 months in office.

Jebet said that she expects the president will consider fully implementing the 2017 doctors collective bargaining agreement and confirmation of interns so as to boost the health sector.
