Police in Migori County have impounded five sacks of bhang valued at Sh5.2 million from Nyangiti area of the Kenya/Tanzania border following a tip-off from members of the public. The operation, led by Migori County Police Commander Francis Nguli, also led to the arrest of three suspects and confiscation of two motorcycles.
Speaking to the press while displaying the nabbed consignment, Nguli said the suspect would be arraigned in court today to face charged with being in possession of and transportation of the illegal drugs. “We were able to impound five sacks of bhang when we carried out an ambush after getting a tip-off from members of the public,” said the police chief.

He said the police service was happy with members of the public who assisted the police to arrest the suspects and the stuff. The police commander noted the importance of such cooperation saying that it would help rid the region of the drugs and save the young people who are targeted by the peddlers from ruining their lives.
Kuria West Deputy County Commissioner, Andrew Mwiti, who assisted in the arrest of the suspect and the consignment revealed that over the last three months they have impounded over 20 sacks of bhang worth over 30 million shillings. He, however, credited the teamwork between the national police service, the national administration officers (NGAO) and members of the public for this achievement.
Mwiti further issued a stern warning to motorcycle riders that they would face the full force of the law if found transporting the illegal stuff on behalf of the peddlers. Also present at the scene was the Migori County Criminal Investigations Officer Bernard Wamalwa.
