Bomet to Upgrade Chebunyo Milk Processing Plant

The Bomet County Government is set to enhance its support for local dairy farmers through a significant upgrade to the Chebunyo Milk Processing Plant.

Bomet Chief Officer for Cooperatives Bernard Koros, announced this exciting development during a recent inspection of the plant’s current status. Speaking in Chebunyo, Chepalungu Sub County, Koros revealed that the local government will collaborate with World Vision to revamp the processing facility.

This partnership aims to boost the plant’s capabilities and support the region’s dairy industry, which has been operational since 2021. Koros reassured the community and local farmers of the County Government’s commitment to the project.

“The County Government of Bomet is dedicated to delivering on this upgrade in partnership with World Vision,” Koros stated. “Our goal is to enhance the cooperative sector, ensuring that farmers gain more benefits from their agricultural activities,” he added.

Chebunyo Milk Processing Plant, which began operations in 2021, was initially established with significant contributions from both World Vision Kenya and Bomet County. World Vision donated Sh13 million, while the county contributed Sh30 million for equipment, with Bomet County building the plant at a cost of Sh17 million.

The Chebunyo Milk Processing Plant was originally established to provide support to local dairy farmers and to improve the dairy industry through value addition. The upcoming upgrade is expected to further this mission by expanding the plant’s processing capabilities and increasing its efficiency.

Accompanying Koros during the inspection were several key figures, including directors from the Department of Cooperatives and engineers from both World Vision and the Public Works Department.
