Burglar pleads guilty to charges of breaking and stealing from his neighbour

A man has appeared before a Kabarnet court and pleaded guilty to an offence of breaking and stealing assorted goods from his neighbour’s house.

Andrew Kipchumba admitted that on May 30, this year, at around 9am in Talai village of Baringo Central sub county, Baringo County, he broke and entered into the dwelling house of Rosemary Chepkirui and made away with assorted household goods.

The accused, charged with two counts of house breaking contrary to Section 304 of the Penal Code is said to have stolen a Sayona woofer, barbed wire and an assortment of clothes of unknown value. On the second count, he is charged with stealing contrary to Section 268 (1) as read with Section 275 of the Penal Code.

Kipchumba was arrested on June 9, and when arraigned before Principal Magistrate Purity Kosgey pleaded guilty to the charges as read to him. “Your Honour, it’s true I stole the items but I request the court to forgive me because I am a first-time offender,” the accused pleaded.

The Principal Magistrate while ruling ordered the accused to be remanded at Kabarnet GK prison, until June 18 when the case will be mentioned, and further orders given out.
