The County Government of Busia through the Veterinary Department has conducted two surgeries including castration and vaccination of two dogs.
The surgeries were conducted on two dogs at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) Lab located in Busia town. According to Busia CEC Member for Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and the Blue Economy, Dr. Symplicious Mukok the exercise is part of the Agriculture Department’s initiative to manage the dog population and prevent the spread of diseases.
“The surgeries were conducted successfully marking a milestone in the County’s efforts to implement sustainable methods of population control in animals,” he said. Mukok added that by reducing the number of stray dogs, the County aims at creating a safer environment free from dog related diseases.
He urged all the local residents to bring their dogs during the County’s dog vaccination exercises and visit the County offices for vaccination to protect their pets and communities.
“The County Government of Busia remains committed to promoting animal health and public safety through such proactive measures,” he said.
