Candidates sitting for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) this year enrolled in various secondary schools in Kirinyaga will benefit from a program initiated by County Women Representative Jane Njeri Maina which is aimed at providing personal effects to both boys and girls.
The County MP who has allocated larger portion of the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) to the Education sector said she will provide dignity bags containing; a bar soap, toothpaste, vest, brush and crocs with girls receiving sanitary pads.
Speaking when he led the distribution at Kimwathi Day Secondary school in Gichugu, Kirinyaga, she said in empowering girl child there is also needed to consider the boy child too for equality’s sake.
Despite little allocation to NGAAF kitty she promised to look for partners to support the program. “The Gen Z recently took to the streets following societal imbalances on fare distribution of resources in the country,” Njeri said.
She asked other leaders in the County to follow suit and address challenges facing the youths.
