Uptake of Coffee Chery Advance disbursement has upscaled hitting a mark of Sh43,735,714 last month.
NKPCU management states that between March 18 and March 25, the Sh43.7 million was channeled to 3,170 beneficiaries across 12 counties. In the disbursement programme, Kambusu Farmers’ Cooperative in Machakos, emerged the highest beneficiary after it got Sh11,544,306 for its 1,919 farmers.
In Kericho, its 189 coffee farmers affiliated to four cooperative societies got Sh9,039,576. The benefitting societies are Meswon, Kiguskong, and Kunyak cooperative societies.
Other counties that benefited are Bungoma,Kakamega, Kiambu, Meru,Migori, Murang’a, Nyamira.Other counties are Tharaka Nithi, Trans Nzoia, and Uasin Gishu.
NKPCU Managing Director Timothy Mirugi said Kakamega is a new entrant in the cherry advancement programme after the farmers showed interest through application.
“In Kakamega, there are 12 beneficiaries from Wecohas FCS benefitting with Sh112,330,” said Mirugi. He added that there was active and continuous sensitization to onboard the 33 counties to benefit from cherry advance.
The kitty since it was started has disbursed Sh3.8 billion benefitting 313,294 coffee farmers, with Nyeri county leading with Sh608 million for 68,369 growers.
Kirinyaga county follows with receiving Sh479 million that has benefitted 55,607 farmers. Kiambu and Murang’a have received Sh457 million and Sh368 million respectively.
