The Human Resource Management Professionals Examination Board (HRMPEB) has certified 108 New Practitioners in the industry to instill professionalism in the Human resource management in public sector.
Speaking during the 5th CHRP Ceremony on Friday, Cabinet Secretary for Public service Justin Muturi said that the celebration is not only a testament to graduands perseverance, dedication and hard work but also a recognition of the critical role they will play in shaping the future of Kenya’s workforce.
“As HR professionals, you will become stewards of organizational culture, champions of employee well-being, and key drivers of productivity and success.,” he said. He applauded the HRMPEB commitment to uphold the highest standards in Human Resource (HR) practice which is commendable as well as acknowledges sponsors, training institutions, and stakeholders for their support.
“The certification given today is a gateway to influence, impact and transform since it is more than a credential,” he said to the graduands, adding that the HR role is pivotal to the success of the organizations across every sector hence they should act professionally as a certified HR professionals.
Muturi stated that HR is the heart of strategic decision-making and no longer a confined administrative tasks hence they are the architects of organizational culture, the protectors of employee welfare, the custodians of compliance and ethical standards.
“Human capital is our most valuable asset and its management must be done with professionalism, integrity, and foresight,” he emphasized, adding that the government recognizes the role played by human resource professionals in Kenya’s socio economic development and that is the reason the government has instituted several policies and frameworks to enhance the HR role in both public and private sectors.
Additionally, he said that HRMP Act of 2012 formalized the HR profession by ensuring that only qualified individuals are entrusted with HR functions, the legislation is a commitment to raising standards in human resource management and ensuring that person’s in HR leadership roles possess the skills and knowledge that steer organizations towards success.
“Moving forward, we are committed to strengthening these policies and reinforcing the importance of the CHRP certification in envisioning a future where only certified professionals are able to handle critical HR functions as other professions such as accounting among others,” said the CS.
At the same time, he recognized the efforts made by HRMP to align HR practices with global standards and integration of CHRP certification into the schemes of service for Public servants that aims to professionalize HR functions in the public sector and entrench best practice that will be emulated by the private sector .
“The country is committed to optimize the utilization of human capital through several key strategies, hence the government’s support for the HR profession is rooted in a broader vision of national growth and the workforce empowerment. He highlited the strategies including competence development investment, lifelong learning, inclusive employment policies and improvement of the workforce environment.
Muturi stated that the government will continue to invest in competence development due to the rapidness of the job market in evolving hence the education and training must be aligned with the demands of the modern workforce.
He recognized the importance of lifelong learning since the world of work is changing at an unprecedented rate and HR professionals must stay ahead of the curve this is to promote policies that facilitate continuous professional development and up skilling that will ensure an equipped workforce with the tools and knowledge needed to adapt to future challenges.
“The government is committed to promote an inclusive employment policy that harnesses the potential of all citizens through the creation of labour market regardless of gender, background, or ability,” he stressed, adding that equitable employment opportunities are not only a matter of justice but also a pathway to unlocking untapped talent and driving economic growth.
Additionally, he said the the government focuses in improving the workplace environment where people can thrive through Innovation, productivity for the well-being of employee since they aim to empower human capital as the engine of Kenya’s socio-economic transformation.
“The government’s commitment to human resource development is reflected in the Human Resource Strategy Framework for the public service, which aims to redefine the management of human capital as a critical factor in improving the performance of the public service,” he stated, adding that the HR practices should be aligned with the global trends which ensures that Kenya remains competitive in the global economy.
The CS has reminded the graduands that they are not only managing people but also shaping the future as they embark on the journey after school since their work will influence the culture, values, and success of the organizations they serve. He has urge them finalist to conduct themselves professionally, uphold highest ethical standards, and never lose sight of the fact that their work has a direct impact on the lives of the people.
As HR professionals, you have a unique opportunity to make workplaces better, fairer, and more inclusive since HR professionals are the voice of reason, fairness, equity in the workplace, and the responsibility carried is immense,” he said as well as urge the graduands to continue learning, growing and leading with purpose since their journey has begun and their future is bright.
HRMPEB Acting Chief Executive Officer CHRP Margaret Nguu said that the occasion has marked a significant milestone towards shaping the future of human resource management in Kenya by certifying 708 HR professionals who have completed their studies under the revised CHRP curricula.
“We are certifying a total of 708 HR professional’s 22 percent representing men 59 men and 78 percentage of women 549, the graduates have been drawn from the examination periods of June 2024, with 396 candidates, November 2023, with 282 candidates, and 30 candidates from other series totaling to 3,713 HR professionals since inception,” he stated.
Nguu said that HRMPEB has transformed to a digital platform in order to improving the efficiency and service delivery to students and developing key policies, strategic plans, revised curricula, administered examinations, secured ex-chequer funding, recruited more staff members, and introduced new programs.
The Acting CEO noted the challenges that hindered and limited the ability of the institution to reach expansion and reach more people including financial constraints and internal Human Resource issues.
“Today is a celebration of your hard work, perseverance, and dedication. You have navigated the complexities of your studies and demonstrated the resilience and determination it takes to excel in your field. As you go forward into the world as certified HR professionals, remember that you are now ambassadors of HRMPEB. Lead with integrity to better the future of HR in Kenya,” she said to the graduands.
She has acknowledged the Ministry of Public Service for their financial support which has enabled HRMPEB to function and grow into the robust examination body and the stakeholders for their unwavering support.
