Coffee auction generates Sh343 million

Coffee farmers earned Sh343,354,477.48 after the sale of 10,737bags of the commodity generated from the Nairobi Coffee Exchange NCE during the weekly auction.

In the sale, Mukangu factory achieved the highest price of Sh36,879.5 per bag of premier grade of AA after the commodity was marketed by Alliance Berries Limited. In the marketing reports other factories that managed the second and third best prices are Ragati Sh36,751 and Mukinduri Sh35,723 respectively.

NCE Chief Executive Officer Lisper Ndung’u, the sale attracted 16 local and international dealers, as Ibero Kenya bought 3,584 bags of the commodity valued at Sh114,945,884.25.

Kenyacof Limited bought 1,969 bags at Sh60,960,585.04, followed by Louis Dreyfus 2,013 bags, at Sh57,579,387.67. She explained that the buyers are interested in the premier gardes of AA and AB, pleading with the farmers to embrace the best farming practices to earn better prices in the market.

” In the market 1,321 bags of AA traded at Sh48,731,093.55 and 3,371 bags of AB for Sh120,531,794.67,” said Ms Ndung’u.

In the sale, the Alliance Berries Limited delivered 6,203 bags of coffee that earned the farmers Sh191,805,113.8, KCCE 494 bags   for Sh15,948,389.43, Kipkelion 875 bags for Sh29,667,902.67.

Other marketing agents that participated in the auction are New KPCU 2,189 bags at Sh70,708,751.81 and Minnesota 976b bags for Sh35,224,314.63
