Coffee auction yields millions for the farmers

Kenya coffee auction mobilised Sh 882,209,438.95 after the sale of 25,748 bags of coffee, sourced from 980 cooperatives and estates. In the sale, the Rwaikamba  factory in Mathioya achieved the highest price of Sh46,231.5 for each of its 52 bags of AA grade sold by New KPCU.

The second-best price was achieved by Kiungu Factory of Sh45,454.5 for each of 21 bags of AA sold by the Alliance Berries Limited. Other factories that achieved the best prices through the Alliance Berries Limited   for premier AA grades are Kirigu Sh45,325,  Kagumo ini Sh44,548, and Ichuga Sh44,677.5.

Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE) Ms Lisper Ndung’u said in the auction the marketing agents presented 3,608 bags of AA that fetched Sh147,307,374.06.

Adding that there were 8,355 bags of AB grades that fetched  Sh 324,950,889.76. “In the auction only five marketing agents participated and presented 25,748 bags of coffee that attracted 19 local and international buyers,” said the CEO.

In the buyer’s category, Ms Ndung’u added Ibero Kenya bought the largest share of 7,719 bags, followed by C -Dorman 4,956 bags.

Others were Kenyacoff 4,693 bags, Louis Dreyfus 3,824 bags,Taylor Winch 1,151 bags, Sasini 860 bags.

In the auction, the marketing agents that participated are Alliance Berries Limited that delivered 17,458 bags that were sold for Sh 612,113,226.27, New KPCU 5,554 bags for Sh 176,211,789.6.

Others are  KCCE 1,688 bags Sh 63,738,677.52s, Kipkelion 950 bags Sh26,855,103.94, and Murang’a Coffee 98 bags Sh3,290,641.62.
