Coffee market earns farmers a billion shillings in the weekly auction.

Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE) fetched Sh1,057,113,511.20 from the sale of 26,449 bags of sourced from 1,081 cooperative societies and estates.

In the sale, three leading marketing agents, Alliance Berries limited, Kirinyaga Slopes and New Kenya Planters Cooperative Union (NKPCU) delivered 19,656 bags of coffee at the auction market that attracted 19 local and international buyers.

NCE acting CEO Lisper Ndung’u said in the sale farmers allied to the Konyu factory achieved the best price after selling their 43 bags of AA through Kirinyaga Slopes each at Sh60,970.

“Farmers at Guama and Gaturiri coffee factories through the Alliance Berries Limited sold their 185 bags of AA   each at Sh56,548,” said Ms Ndung’u. In the coffee buyer’s category, she detailed that Ibero Kenya bought 5,960 bags at Sh226,849,296.8, followed by C Dorman 4,308 bags at Sh222,266,274.36. Karatina coffee factory through alliance berries limited sold 133 bags of coffee at each Sh60,970.

Other buyers are Kenya of 5,622 bags for Sh213,655,169.04, Louis Dreyfus 5,511 bags for Sh 198,892,421.2, Jowam  coffee traders bought 1,163 bags at Sh42,995,513.36.

Kigumo MP Joseph Munyoro and member of Coffee Tea Parliamentary Association (COTEPA) said in the sale the marketing agents delivered 15,433 bags of coffee for AA and AB that generated Sh681,578,535.32.

” We encourage the farmers to adopt the best practices in coffee farming to enable the buyers to offer the best prices. Alot is required to enable farmers to produce the highly sought grade AA,” said Munyoro.

 Chairman to Kenya Coffee Producers Association Peter Gikonyo said the coffee auction was stable following the delivery of the produce by the marketing agents. “As the organisation we are pleased after the much engagement with the farmers to use the NCE trading platforms bore fruits,” said Gikonyo.
