Kenyan coffee this week has raised Sh802.5 million following the sale of 19,804 bags of the commodity by eleven buyers. In the Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE) auction the week’s sale reflected a decline from the past market that injected a billion shillings into the economy after the sale of 26,813 bags of the commodity.
In the market, Alliance Berries Limited sold 41 bags of AA quality from Kianjiru coffee factory each at Sh48,972 to Kenyacof. Another 43 bags of AA quality from the Iyego factory in Murang’a also sold by the Alliance Berries Limited was bought at Sh48,576 was purchased by C Dormans.
In the market that had 11 local and international dealers, NCE Acting CEO Lisper Ndung’u said the six marketters delivered 4,121 bags of AA at Sh204.1 million, while 7,403 bags of AB were bought at Sh308,369,022.
“The market is in good progress, and I hope more coffee will be produced by the farmers and sold through the auction platform,” said Ms Ndung’u. In the buyer’s category, Kenyacof Limited, led the pack by taking home 4,382 bags at Sh175 million, with Louis Dreyfus ranked the second after it bought 4,423 bags of coffee for Sh162 million.
Others were C Dorman 3,394 bags, for Sh160.5 million, Taylor Winch e,492 bags for Sh145.5 million, Ibero Kenya 1,983 bags of the commodity at Sh78.6 million. In the market, Kirinyaga Slopes delivered 7,198 bags of coffee that were bought at Sh286 million, while Alliance Berries Limited secured Sh235 million after the sale of 5,619 bags of coffee.
State backed NKPCU presented 3,305 bags at the auction for Sh135 million,KCCE managed 2,117 bags that were sold for Sh88.5 million, Kiambu Coffee 1,195 bags for Sh43.1 million, Mt Elgon 370 bags at Sh13.5 million.
