Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE) in the weekly coffee auction managed to sell commodity worth Sh927,825,812.37 that produced by 1,123 farmers cooperatives and estates.
The 26,431bags of coffee weighing 1,621,160 kilogrammes that were sold by 10 marketing agents with the privately owned Alliance Berries Limited delivering 12,097 bags that fetched Sh452,880,789.84.
In the online trading, Kiburi Factory AA grade marketed by the Alliance Berries Limited achieved the highest price of Sh 51,156 per bag from the Kenyacof of 50 kilogrammes.
Gakuyu ini factory also sold by the Alliance Berries fetched Sh49,459.5 and ranked the second-best price from the C Dormans. NCE CEO Ms Lisper Ndung’u said in the auction there were 16 local and international buyers as there were a total of 4,230 bags of AA and 7,932 of AB.
She said other factories that achieved best prices are Kathima,Kayu,Kagumo ini, Ichamara, Gititu,New Mitaboni and Thanga ini. ” We encourage the growers to nurture their coffee trees for increased production of the quality grades that attract the buyers.
In the auction, Ibero Kenya Ltd bought 7,414 bags of coffee at Sh 237,166,544.88, followed by C Dorman bought 6,936 bags of the commodity at Sh 288,382,713.21. Louis Dreyfus purchased 5,681 bags for Sh 176,972,657.76, Kenyacof Limited 2,488 bags at Sh 77,383,394.1 and Sasini 728 bags for Sh28 million.
The marketing agents that participated in the auction were Alliance Berries Limited that sold 12,097 bags for Sh 452,880,789.84, Baringo Kawa 401 bags for Sh14,345,614.44, KCCE 3,283 bags at Sh110,207,563.2, Kipkelion 1,944 bags for Sh59,430,383.82.
Others were New KPCU 6,168 bags Sh 207,515,029.14, Kirinyaga Slopes 1,325 bags Sh44,134,726.77, Minnesota 421 bags at Sh12,704,336.82, Murang’a County 540 bags Sh17,670,814.47, and United Eastern 76 bags, Sh2,535,085.17
