Coffee market continued generating money to the farmers with the weekly auction raising Sh 491 million. At the Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE) 14,260 bags of the commodity were traded after they were sourced from 984 cooperatives and estates.
The coffee auction platform attracted 19 buyers, reflecting a drop in prices as compared to the previous week’s sales of Sh882.2 million from the sale of 25,748 bags.
In the analysis of the auction ahead of Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE) proceeds of recess next month, Ndiara factory affiliated to Kiru society in Mathioya achieved the highest price of Sh48,707 for its premier grades of AA, marketed by Alliance Berries Limited.
In the auction, Alliance Berries Limited delivered at the market 7,024 bags that were bought at Sh247.5 million, New KPCU 3,457 bags Sh117.4 million, Kirinyaga Slopes 1,052 bags Sh 32.2 million. NCE Chief Executive Officer Ms Lisper Ndungu said Kiganjo factory with a bag of AA trading at Sh 47,282.1 achieved the best price at the market.
She said the Gatubu factory, affiliated to Iyego society, achieved the third best price of Sh45,339 per bag at the auction market followed by Ndundu factory at Sh46,893.48.
“The buyers are interested in the best grades, and we plead with our farmers to produce the best quality for achieving the highest prices in the market,” Ndung’u said. She added that in the presentation of the premier gardes in the market, there were 1,482 bags of AA that were bought for Sh64.4 million, and 2,766 of AB at Sh109.4 million.
In the buyer’s category, Ibero bought 3,500 bags of coffee at Sh118 million, followed by C Dorman 2,124 bags at Sh84 million, Louis Dreyfus 2,481 bags at Sh71.3 million and Sasini 1,683 bags at Sh 65.2 million.
