The Nakuru County Government is set to commence the construction of acceleration and deceleration lanes, alongside various other enhancements around the PGH Level 5 Hospital in London Ward, Nakuru West Sub-county.

The deceleration lane will allow vehicles to slow down to a safer speed before entering the hospital while the acceleration lanes will allow cars leaving the hospital to join the main road to speed up.  The Sh49 Million project will include culvert and drainage works to ensure proper water management and road longevity and the upgrading of the carriageway as well as establishment of road furniture such as bollards, yellow paint, warning signs, and informatory signs to guide traffic and enhance safety.

Additionally, the project will see the planting of ten shade trees and the installation of a walkway covered with heavy colored paving blocks, creating a more pedestrian-friendly environment.  The deceleration lane will stretch from Moi Primary School to the main gate of PGH Level 5 Hospital, allowing vehicles to slow down safely as they approach the hospital.

County Executive Member for Infrastructure, Engineer Michael Kamau.

The acceleration lane will extend from the hospital’s main gate towards the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), facilitating a smooth and safe re-entry onto the highway.  County Executive Member for Infrastructure, Engineer Michael Kamau, while speaking at the site emphasized the importance of safety during the construction process.

Eng Kamau also highlighted the need for the contractor to liaise with the Department of Environment before cutting any trees. On his part, Chief Officer for Infrastructure, Samuel Ndegwa, assured the contractor of the department’s full commitment to delivering the project within the stipulated timelines.

Present were the area MCA Bernard Gatuso, Acting Director for Roads and Public Transport Edgar Sirima, Ward Administrator Edwin Keter, Assistant Engineer Solomon Macharia, and a team from the hospital led by Medical Superintendent Dr. James Waweru.

Ward coordinators Francis Gatimu and Zachariah Kemboi were also present, alongside representatives from the contractor’s team.
