Vihiga County Commissioner Felix Watakila has called on public officers whose departments were implementing projects to closely monitor the progress of the works. Watakila said doing so would ensure unscrupulous contractors do not do shoddy work or fail to meet the set timelines.

The CC, who spoke during a County Implementation Coordination and Management Committee (CICMC) meeting, urged the officers to deliver on all the assignments they were given.

He took issue with contractors who have been unable to complete their projects at Ebunangwe Vocational Training College (VTC) in Emuhaya sub county and Emululu VTC in Luanda sub county and asked them to ‘up their game’.

He regretted that despite the fact that the contractors had been paid a substantial amount of money, they had not been able to honour their part of the bargain. The Deputy Director from the Government Delivery Service (GDS) Dennis Angehi called on the participants to pass information to relevant authorities in case they met challenges while implementing the projects.

He said the GDS would work closely with the county and regional committees to ensure the projects were executed effectively and within the set timelines. The Western Regional Director the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) Eng. Michael Outa said they have been unable to carry out routine maintenance and rehabilitation of some feeder roads due to limited funds.

He however decried the vandalism of the road signage and appealed for multi-sectorial collaboration to rein in the criminals. Other incomplete works include Gisambai-Senende road, Mbale-magada –luanda road and Lusui-Mululu road.
