Floods

Uasin Gishu County Government has intensified its flood mitigation measures in the identified flood-prone areas to cushion residents against losses and damages to property.

According to the County Executive Committee Member for Roads Eng Joseph Lagat, the county has been working continuously on drainage projects including the construction of box culverts, and bridges, the opening of blocked drainage lines and the excavation of natural waterways to enhance the free flow of overflowing water to reduce flooding.

He stated: “As a department, we are actively monitoring the ongoing rainfall and working on various projects to mitigate against possible disasters as well as implement prompt responses where required.”

“…Our county roads machinery is available and ready to respond quickly in case of flooding or blocked roads. We however caution residents against obstruction of waterways. We urge those residing near rivers to move to higher grounds to protect themselves in case of overflows,” he added.

The CECM spoke on Wednesday during a meeting with engineers, inspectors and surveyors where they also discussed issues on the county budgeting process for road projects, a list of identified projects at the ward level, setting up of an Asphalt Processing Plant in the county and its impact among others.

Roads Chief Officer Eng Abraham Kiptalam, Director Julius Ronoh and Director of Administration Mark Tarus attended the meeting.
