Vihiga county government in partnership with Stanbic Bank Kenya and Microsoft is offering a digital training programme to Technical, Vocational and Educational Training instructors.

Speaking while opening the programme on Monday, Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo noted that the training will equip the participants with relevant skills that they will impart to the trainees in the TVET institutions. Dr. Ottichillo underscored the importance of digital skills, saying they are an enabler for accessing and disseminating information on digital devices.

He stated that the training would enable them to undertake digital freelancing, transcription, digital marketing and social media management among other things. “We recognize the important role played by the TVET institutions in equipping the learners with skills for self-reliance, noting that they produce graduates who are capable of setting up their own enterprises to earn a living,” he said.

The County head added that he is engaging with the County Assembly with the view of increasing the budgetary allocation to the directorate responsible for the institutions for the improvement of infrastructure and hiring more technical staff.

He disclosed that in collaboration with the state department for foreign and diaspora affairs, they have organized a western regional job Fair between 28th to 30th August where over 8,000 job seekers are expected to attend. “The attendees would be given tips on boosting their employability, offered available job opportunities and linked to employment agencies which will link them to employers abroad,” he stated.
