Nairobi Regional Commissioner (RC) Katee Mwanza has cautioned individuals vandalizing roads furniture along Kitisuru-Thika Road in Westlands and Kasarani sub counties within Nairobi County to stop forthwith.
Mr. Mwanza said the government has spent a colossal amount of funds and resources to construct roads and other infrastructures in the county and will not allow people to destroy them. “Security Committees in the Sub Counties should ensure that vandalism of road furniture is stopped, and those involved in the theft should be arrested and arraigned in court,” he stressed.
The RC mentioned that in 2022, there was widespread vandalism of critical infrastructure in the country, which made the government to make a decision that anyone found vandalizing road furniture be charged with terrorism.
The RC was speaking during the Nairobi National Government Development Region/County Implementation Coordination and Management Committee held at the Regional Commissioner Boardroom at Nyayo House Building that was attended by the Director Delivery Service for Nairobi and Central Regions Mr. Jonah Orumoi and Departmental Heads.
He at the same time cautioned people encroaching on the Southern bypass and other road reserves within the country to stop.
Mwanza also called upon regional and county officers implementing government funded projects and programmes to work in collaboration with officers from other departments, noting that through team work the region will accomplish the earmarked projects on a timely basis.
He said it is prudent for government officers to be conversant with the projects and programmes being undertaken in other departments, as it will enable them to respond to effectively to questions from the members of public, since they are link of both the government and the public.
“The government is undertaking a lot of projects within the county to benefit the citizenry and since communication is key, sharing of information with colleagues is important as it will eliminate misinformation reaching the public on various platforms” said Mwanza.
The RC also called upon officers to conduct engagement and sensitization forums of the projects and programmes they are undertaking for the uptake of the citizens who are the beneficiaries, adding that such engagements will also eliminate wastage.
He at the same time urged the regional and county heads to be keen in monitoring, and evaluating the projects they undertake, noting that assessment impact, follows ups and feedback from the beneficiaries and constant supervision results to quality projects.
