The already existing rift in Mt Kenya region continues to widen after the Cabinet Minister for Public Service, Performance and Delivery Management Moses Kuria presented himself as the alternative between Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro even as he contends that there is a strategy to divide the region.
Three days ago, while attending Kikuyu gospel artist’s ceremony where he donated Sh200000 Kuria condemned the Murnaga incident where Nyoro together with three Muranga elected leaders ‘hijacked’ an event organized by the second in command accusing the leaders involved in the controversy of engaging in showbiz when people were mourning loss of loved ones through the landslide.
“In Muranga they were competing on who will arrive first and later fry using a chopper and that is a high level of stupidity. I will not die twice; I’m fed up with stupidity,” Kuria said.
He claimed that some leaders ‘who are being brought in Mt Kenya region’ lacked political experience as they were not aware of the efforts that had been put in place to shape the political matrix of the Mt Kenya region.
“Some leaders are like maize stalks fire (mwaki wa mabebe) which after burning they don’t leave a trace of charcoal, they don’t know of our efforts and where we have removed this community and that is why they can only compete using choppers. Enough is enough we must chase them away,” said Kuria.
He went ahead and urged the musicians present at the function to use their voice and help him ‘chase the leaders away’ saying ‘I have been supportive to artists but I have never asked them to return a hand, but today I ask you to join me in chasing away these ‘ostriches’ because you have a voice.
Later, the Cs attended his ‘Moses Kuria cup Tournament fundraiser to support the ongoing tournament targeting the Central Kenya region that brings together 66 constituencies and the 11 counties with a view of complimenting the fight against drugs and alcohol menace in what is seen a strategy to endear himself to the Mt Kenya region community.
Kuria’s remarks during the artist’s fundraiser and his tournament efforts comes at a time when the Muranga leaders last week presented their Kiharu counterpart as their leader when they attended a function that Gachagua was attending only for them to arrive before him and left before he arrived.
The unfolding of the political events seems to have angered Embakasi North MP James Gakuya, an ardent ally of Gachagua who has now claimed there is a well-oiled strategy to undermine Gachagua with a view to undermining him under the guise of selling ‘the generational card’ narrative.
Gakuya, claimed Nyoro has been nation-trotting using choppers he claimed belonged to President William Ruto saying there was an elaborate scheme to potray an image of a divided Mt Kenya region.
“Nyoro is not intending to vote for the Presidency in 2027 and his momentum does not seem to be channeled to the 2032 Presidential bid because it would be too early to start that for now. He is a tortoise placed on top of the table. He uses choppers that belong to the President, and this means he does not fuel them. Even if you want to replace Gachagua with Nyoro, why can’t you wait for the right time,” he said in Kameme tv morning show yesterday.
While maintaining that he was not against the youthful leaders’ ambitions, he cautioned them to desists form being used to divide the region maintain that the Deputy Presidency post is not campaigned for adding that some people were focused on lighting so many fires against Gachagua
The push and pull in the Mt Kenya region comes at a time when Gachagua has been urging the leaders to unite for the region to continue maintaining its relevance in the national political discourse under the clarion call of “Buffalos do not go together because of how they love each other it is because of fear of being attacked by other wild animals that is why I keep urging our leaders to remain united,” the second in command has been quoted saying in his many meetings in Mt Kenya region.
He has also been reaching out to former President Uhuru Kenyatta and this was demonstrated by his apology to his mother Mama Ngina Kenyatta when he asked for her forgiveness over the campaign excesses of 2022 general elections where Kenyatta’s family was dragged by the Kenya Kwanza leaders who pushed the hustler versus dynasty narrative.
