Isiolo County Commissioner Mr. Geoffrey Omoding has urged the development partners to ensure they explicitly complete projects to restore the confidence of the public.
Mr. Omoding expressed fears that the targeted beneficiaries lost faith in development partners and agencies overseeing stalled projects noting that their confidence could only be restored when initiatives meant to uplift their livelihood materialized to a logical conclusion. The CC said that previously millions of money meant for local projects was swindled and the responsible schemers only being seen at the first day project approval by County Steering Group before going underground making projects to stall.
“We are warning that no more implementation of joint projects’ because the CSG has found out that most of such shared projects by the partners end up in stalling and incidences of corruption observed from one of the implementers who mostly jumped out of the ship,” the CC said.
The administrator who was the chief guest during the marking of International Day of Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDRR) held at Akadeli primary school in Burat Ward said that the government would not entertain the development partners who were not helping the people they were supposed to serve.
He added that Non-government organizations should work with sector groups and submit timely progress reports on their projects. During the ceremony attended by County Government officials and several development partners over 500 trees were planted in the school to reduce desertification.
On security, Mr. Omoding said that the government would deal with leaders who incited communities to violence or even protected the criminals that belonged to their ethnic group while they conducted crimes against residents. He added that operation along Marsabit – Isiolo highway would continue so as to secure the road and ensure the area was clear of bandits.
He added that 18 of cattle stolen from Kambi Garba area near Isiolo town recently were recovered and warned chiefs and their assistants that no more recovery of stolen animals would be received without the suspects. The administrator said that the only way the region would clear the area of crimes like livestock theft and banditry was through educating young children.
Mr. Omoding who was accompanied by Deputy County Secretary Mr. Mohamed Boru called upon head teachers and principals in the area to ensure that learners planted trees in school compounds to reduce desertification and bad effects of climate change. He also advised the local residents to adjust lifestyles by diversifying both agriculture and livestock keeping activities as resilience during droughts.
