The Chief of Staff and the head of Public Service Felix Koskey on Monday joined Bomet residents in a tree planting exercise at Chepalungu Forest, Chepalungu Sub County, Bomet.

Koskei, who was accompanied by Chief of Staff Deputy President’s office Wanjiku Wakogi, said the exercise was in line with President William Ruto’s call for all ministries, departments and agencies to participate in fulfilling the government’s ambition of planting 15 billion trees by the year 2032.

He said his office was tasked with the responsibility of planting one million trees annually in Chepalungu forest, Bomet as well as Chogoria forest in Tharaka Nithi county and in Nairobi city.

Present at the event was Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok who said the exercise was part of the broader effort to enhance reforestation and environmental conservation across the country. Prof Barchok said the step was a confirmation of the government’s commitment to ensuring sustainable environmental practices and involvement of the community in forest conservation efforts.

He said tree planting was a step towards mitigation the adverse effects brought about by climate change.  The Governor revealed that learning institutions would be roped in to ensure achievement of maximum results and also to inculcate the culture of tree planting among learners.

Also present at the function were Chepalungu Member of Parliament Victor Koech, Judicial Service Commission Vice Chairman Isaac Ruto, staff from the Kenya Forest Services and the Kenya Wildlife Services and other organisations as well as hundreds of members of the public.
