Five dead, three critically injured in morning accident in Murang’a

Five people died on the spot while three were critically injured following a tragic road accident at Mumbu area, Kaharati on the Murang’a – Nairobi highway on Thursday mid- morning.

The accident involved a saloon car that was heading to Murang’a and a lorry heading in the opposite direction towards Kenol. According to preliminary investigations the vehicles collided head on in the accident that caused a traffic snarl up that lasted hours forcing motorists and other road users to use alternative routes.

Confirming the incident, Deputy County Commissioner Murang’a South Ngigi Wainaina noted that all the causalities were in the personal car. Further, the five died on the spot while three who were critically injured were rushed to Murang’a level five hospital.

Nursing Manager, Murang’a level five hospital Alice Gitahi noted that two of the injured persons who sustained serious injuries are at the facility being managed.

“We received a call from someone who witnessed the accident at Kaharati informing us of an accident whereby we dispatched two of our ambulances to the scene,” she said noting that, “two patients were brought in in critical condition and are currently in our facilities’ ICU being managed “

The deceased were moved to Murang’a level five hospital mortuary for preservation and postmortem while the vehicles involved were towed to Kenol police station.
